CrownSeal is an excellent trowel grade chimney product to repair cracked and degraded chimney crowns.

 CrownSeal remain permanently flexible, providing a waterproof membrane, so it can be used right up against the flue tile, making it unnecessary to leave space around the flues for expansion.
 

It is appropriate for both horizontalCrownSeal is a trowel grade chimney crown repair product. and vertical applications as long as the chimney crown surface is structurally sound. It can even be used on stucco.

CrownSeal covers about 18 square feet of chimney crown per gallon at a thickness of 1/8". It dries in about 6 hours and cures completely in 24 to 72 hours, depending on the temperature and humidity.  CrownSeal should not be used at temperatures below 40o. The temperature must remain above 40o for 24 hours after it is applied.
 

Application of CrownSeal is easy:

 

  • First, sweep the chimney crown off to remove any loose particles
Trowel on CrownSeal.
  • Then trowel on CrownSeal to a thickness of 1/8" to 1/4". You can use a putty knife if you prefer.
Scrape the CrownSeal with a 1/4 inch trowel.
  • Next, scrape with a 1/4" trowel.
Smooth out the trowel marks in the CrownSeal with a wet paint brush.
  • Then just smooth out the trowel marks with a wet paint brush. 

    That's it! You'll have a waterproof chimney crown that dries to a natural concrete look.
