Flue Stretcher Chimney Caps, by Gelco, in Stainless Steel Flue Extenders Cure Common Smoky Fireplace Problems
When you have just one flue, reduce downdrafts by using the Flue Stretcher to raise your flue above nearby structures and roofs.
With two or more flues, use the Flue Stretcher to raise one flue above another. Keep smoke from one flue from being pulled into your home by the other flue.
Stainless steel Flue Stretchers by Gelco are an ingenious way to solve a couple of common fireplace problems. The Flue Stretchers effectively raise the height of your
flue, so they are helpful with some smoky fireplace problems:
If smoke sometimes puffs into your room while your fireplace fire is burning, check outside your home. Are there structures (such as a taller part of your own home,
a nearby home, or trees) blocking a good flow of air by your flue? If so, would raising your flue's opening by a foot or two put it above those structures? If that's the case, a Flue
Stretcher can be a low cost solution to your down-drafting problem.
If you have an upstairs and a downstairs fireplace with flues near each other, do you get smoke coming out of the downstairs fireplace when the upstairs fireplace is
burning? If so, adding a Flue Stretcher to the flue of the upstairs fireplace raises the flue's opening by a foot or two. By distancing with a Flue Stretcher the upstairs flue's smoke from
the downward pull of the downstairs flue, you can eliminate the smoke-out-one-flue-and-down-the-other problem.
(NOTE: If neither of these conditions describes your flue or flues, but
fireplace smoke is coming into your home, see our article about solving smoky fireplace problems for the best solution to your particular situation.)
As an added benefit, many people just like the looks of the Flue Stretchers! These tall chimney cap flue extenders give an appearance similar to a clay chimney pot or a European copper chimney pot,
and extend the strong vertical line of your chimney, for a fraction of the price. If you are buying Flue Stretchers solely for the appearance, may we suggest the Copper Flue Stretcher Chimney Caps?
Stainless Steel Flue Stretchers are available for both square and rectangular flues. To add one foot of height to your existing flue, select a 22" tall Flue Stretcher;
the additional 10 inches is the chimney cap part of the Flue Stretcher. To add two feet to the height of your existing flue, select a 34" tall Flue Stretcher; the additional 10 inches is the chimney
cap part of the Flue Stretcher.
