If your fireplace or fire pit is a size that just doesn't work with standard-sized grates, we'll be happy to
make a custom fireplace grate to your specifications. You can choose a grate for light usage or heavy usage. Your custom fireplace grate can be rectangular, or tapered from
wider at the front to narrower at the back. You can tell us how tall the legs should be on any custom made grate.
Our custom grates are Made in America of welded steel.
Measuring for Custom Fireplace Grates
Measure the width of your firebox at the front and at the back. Measure the height of anything attached
to the floor of the firebox.
Your custom fireplace grate should be at least 6" narrower than your fireplace floor, and at least 3"
shallower than the fireplace. This gives you room for your hands when you put the grate in place.
The grate needs to be no larger than the fire you intend to build upon it.
The legs of your custom grate should be at least 3 inches tall to promote a good draft. The legs
should be tall enough to clear anything, like a gas burner, that is installed in the fireplace.
Measuring for a Custom Fire Pit Grate
Measure the diameter of your fire pit.
Your custom fire pit grate should be at least 3" smaller in diameter than the fire pit so that you can
easily lift it out when you want to clean your fire pit.
Decide how high you want the surface of the grate to be above the bottom of the fire pit so we know how
tall to make the legs.
Selecting Light or Heavy Duty Steel Custom Grates
Finally, choose light duty construction with 1/2" by 1/2" steel or
heavy duty construction with 1/2" by 1" steel. The heavier the steel, the longer your grate will last.
