ounce solid copper. You can specify both the horizontal skirt width (how far
in from the outer edge of the mesh screening will be) and the vertical skirt height
(how far down the chimney the skirt goes.) The standard horizontal skirt width is 2 inches. The standard vertical skirt height is 3 inches.
- The heavy duty, solid 20 ounce copper mesh screening, which should be at least 5 inches taller than your tallest flue with a recommended
8 inch minimum to assure good fireplace drafting, keeps animals and debris out of your home. Specify the screen height you want for your Custom Copper Outside Mount Designer Lid Chimeny Cap up to 24 inches tall. If you need a height taller than 24 inches, a
copper riser can be added at the base of the mesh.
- Is the top of the cement part around your flues
 (the crown) more than an inch above  the chimney bricks? If so, you will need an elevation between the top edge of the vertical skirt and the bottom of the screen mesh.
The image at the left shows a standard, flat horizontal skirt. Unless you specify an elevation, your Custom Copper Outside Mount Designer Lid Chimney
Cap will be made with the standard, flat horizontal skirt with no elevational rise.
To the right, above, is a horizontal skirt with an elevation. The dotted brown
line represents the number of inches your elevation might need to be. It is the height from where the bottom of the mesh screen will be to the top of the first row of chimney bricks.
- Standard copper mesh screening has 3/4 inch holes and is appropriate for most chimney caps. If, however, the outside mount copper chimney cap will be used in
California or another wildfire prone areas, the chimney cap will be made with the smaller 5/8 inch mesh screening that is required by state or local code.
- Tapcon drill bits and tapcon screws are included for easy attachment of your
copper outside mount chimney cap . Or, if you prefer, designer hip and ridge lid copper outside mount chimney caps can attached with discontinuous beads of chimney cap adhesive.
